Every year, we wait with baited breathe for the international racing season to begin. Whilst waiting, we got thinking about the number of new bike brands that seem to have popped up this year. We dont mean new bikes, we mean new companies that have launched their first or second bike.
It got us thinking about how crowded the market is. Surely there are enough choices out there? Surely there is no space for these smaller, independent companies to play amongst the big brands like Specialized, Trek, Scott, Giant, and and and......
So far in 2019 we have seen the launch of:
and a 2nd bike from Guerilla Gravity
The main thing we wonder about though, is do these bikes have a place in the SA market? Is your average South African MTB'er going to go out on a limb and buy one of these bikes, or will they follow the crowd and go for the more responsible options?
Our guess is there are only a handful who will, and even then, they will probably go for more "fringe" brands (by SA standards) like YT, Canyon, Lapierre, Kona, Evil, Knolly ect etc
